We investigate the divergence in attitudes and organizations between Europe and the United States concerning food safety. We posit that cultural and historical differences between Europe and the US are the two main contributing factors to these various attitudes. Europe’s adoption of the precautionary principle weighed against the unbridled capitalism of the American Dream has resulted in two vastly different approaches to the development, sale, and regulation of GM products.
